A stabilized α-helix peptide and a method of using the same are provided. It includes a bridging ("hydrocarbon staple") moiety that provides a tether between two amino acid motifs to sterically assist in the original secondary structure of the polypeptide. Thereby, a predisposing polypeptide having an α-helix secondary structure can be constrained to its original α-helix-like three-dimensional structure. Polypeptides can be used to treat diseases characterized by excessive or inappropriate cell death. [Selection figure] None |
