abstract Provided is a method for producing rivastigmine useful for the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Down's syndrome, Huntington's chorea, Friedrich's ataxia, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. (S) -3- (1-dimethyl) at high temperature in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a base selected from the group consisting of carbonates, bicarbonates, and alkoxides of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals. A step of reacting (aminoethyl) phenol with ethylmethylcarbamoyl chloride, and (S) -3-[(1-dimethylamino) ethyl] -phenyl-N-ethyl-N-methyl- represented by the following formula (I): A method for producing rivastigmine and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, comprising a step of separating carbamic acid (rivastigmine).
