abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a highly safe compound having an effective osteogenesis promoting effect and reduced side effects as a useful pharmaceutical for treating or preventing various bone diseases. According to the present invention, there is provided an osteogenesis promoter containing ursodeoxycholic acid or a conjugate thereof or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The osteogenesis promoter of the present invention promotes differentiation of preosteoblasts into osteoblasts. Therefore, it is useful as a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for diseases that require bone formation promotion including osteoporosis, periodontal disease, and fractures, and diseases in which bone mass is reduced.
