The method includes detecting the amino acid residues at positions 56 and 86 in the amino terminal region of the NS3 protein of hepatitis C virus, wherein the amino acid residue at position 56 is tyrosine, and A method for evaluating a hepatitis C virus strain, wherein the amino acid residue at the position is glutamine is used as an indicator of high carcinogenicity.
