abstract | The present invention provides a method for producing an aromatic vinyl compound polymer which can carry out a polymerization reaction while maintaining a high polymerization activity even when not subjected to a reaction immediately after preparation of a catalyst. A polymerization catalyst obtained by a catalyst preparation method comprising a step of contacting a half metallocene complex and an organoaluminum compound, and a step of forming an ionic complex from the contact product of the step and a specific ionic compound is used.
