A novel therapeutic approach for treating bleeding disorders is provided. Disclosed is a method of treating bleeding disorders using a non-anticoagulant sulfated polysaccharide (NASP) as a coagulogen. NASPs can be administered to promote hemostasis as a single agent, in combination with each other, or in combination with other agents (eg, Factor VII, Factor VIII and Factor IX). In particular, the use of NASP in the treatment of bleeding disorders, including congenital clotting disorders resulting from blood factor deficiency, acquired clotting disorders, and bleeding conditions resulting from trauma is described.
