PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin external preparation having a safe and highly active melanin production inhibitory effect. The present invention relates to a skin external preparation having an active ingredient and a specific whitening agent or a specific plant or an extract thereof as a group of compounds having a germaclon-like skeleton represented by Chemical formula (1). These compounds can be obtained by purification from plants such as gadgets and turmeric. By using this compound in combination with a specific whitening agent or a specific plant or an extract thereof, a dramatic whitening effect can be expected even in a whitening agent having a blending amount that has not been obtained in the past.
