abstract |
Molybdenum succinimide composites are provided. There is also provided a lubricating oil composition comprising at least (a) a base oil having a major amount of lubricating viscosity; and (b) a minor amount of a molybdated succinimide complex. Molybdenated succinimide complexes comprising: (a) a succinimide of a polyamine of formula (I), an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof, and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid for the succinimide of formula (I) or Reacting the anhydride at a molar ratio of about 0.9: 1 to about 1.05: 1; and (b) reacting the succinimide product of step (a) with an acidic molybdenum compound. Produced by a method comprising: [Chemical 1] Wherein R is a hydrocarbon group having a number average molecular weight of about 500 to about 5000; a and b are independently 2 or 3, and x is 0 to 10.
