Superhydrophobic coatings, devices and articles comprising superhydrophobic coatings, and methods for preparing superhydrophobic coatings are provided. An exemplary superhydrophobic device is a substrate component and one or more superhydrophobic coatings disposed over and covering the substrate component. At least one layer can include a superhydrophobic coating having a water contact angle of at least about 150 ° and a contact angle hysteresis of less than about 1 °. These one or more superhydrophobic coatings can comprise an ultra-high water content acid catalyzed polysilicate gel, which is a silica having surface functional groups derivatized with a silylating agent. Includes a three-dimensional network of particles and a large number of pores. |
