titleOfInvention Biomass processing method
abstract A method for treating biomass containing fiber structures and polysaccharides. According to this method, the polysaccharide is separated from the fiber mass by subjecting the biomass to an extraction process in which the biomass is heated to an absolute pressure exceeding 0.6 MPa and a temperature of at least 160 ° C. in an aqueous phase. According to the present invention, the pH of the biomass to be subjected to the extraction process is not actively reduced during the extraction process, and after the process, the pressure is reduced under control so as not to decompose the fiber structure of the biomass. The polysaccharide separated from the fiber mass is recovered as the first fraction, the fiber structure of the biomass is recovered as the second fraction, and at least one of these first and second fractions is subjected to another treatment. According to the present invention, useful compounds and compounds from starting materials can be isolated by methods suitable for use on an industrial scale.
