abstract | Provided herein are novel polythiophene compounds having polyalkoxy side chains and activated, low temperature irreversible (IUA) thermochromic compounds / compositions. The IUA thermochromic compound or composition is activated and heated above the reversible thermochromic transition temperature (RTTT) and then cooled to below the irreversible thermochromic transition temperature (IRTTT) for less than 2 seconds. Indicates color. Activated IUA thermochromic compounds or compositions will retain their IUA color as long as the compound or composition is kept about 5 ° C. or more below the IRTTT. An IUA thermochromic compound / composition can be used to prepare an IUA thermochromic indicator that can monitor objects stored below a predetermined temperature and detect objects exposed to temperatures above that predetermined temperature. |
