| abstract |
A method for safely penetrating tissue in the stomach wall is to deploy a tissue puncture assembly (10) including a suction device (18) proximate to the stomach wall tissue and apply a vacuum source (27) to the suction device to perform suction. Pulling a portion of the gastric wall tissue toward the device and extending the needle (22) through the portion of the gastric wall tissue that has been pulled into contact with the suction device. A device for safely penetrating tissue in the stomach wall includes a tissue puncture assembly including a cup-shaped suction device with an internal suction port (17) and an open end. The needle is surrounded by this cup and extends through the cup towards the open end. |
