The present invention relates to the use of selected metal complex compounds and ligands as oxidation catalysts and methods for removing stains and stains on fabrics and hard surfaces. The metal complex compound preferably has a hydrazide ligand having an electron withdrawing group in the phenyl ring adjacent to the acyl group.
