titleOfInvention Encapsulation coating to reduce particle shedding
abstract Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an encapsulated ceramic element that is coated with a polymeric material that is precisely applied to the edge of the element that is exposed during dicing. Methods of applying the polymer as well as particular polymers that are particularly useful are disclosed. For example, the polymer material can be applied using a precision application method such as ink jet printing, and in particular, the material can be precisely written directly to the desired location. Another method has been described in the use of photolithographic methods. In addition, the inventors have identified polyimide as a particularly useful polymeric material in connection with certain embodiments.
