Biodegradable polymer |
abstract |
A biodegradable polymer having an internal disulfide bond and an implantable or insertable medical device comprising the polymer. According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a polymer having a plurality of well-defined polymer segments joined by disulfide bonds. When these disulfide bonds are broken, a large number of lower molecular weight smaller polymers are produced. According to another aspect of the present invention, an implantable or insertable medical device is provided, the device containing a polymer having a plurality of well-defined polymer segments joined by disulfide bonds.
