A method for identifying a population of platelets, preferably a population of immature reticulated platelets, in a biological sample, wherein the biological sample binds to an epitope or antigen on platelets, or at least one labeled ligand or labeled monoclonal Incubating with antibody and nucleic acid dye. The sample is analyzed and one or more platelet populations are identified or quantified by passing the incubated sample through a flow cytometer. The incubated sample is illuminated using a laser light source and the fluorescence of the labeled ligand and nucleic acid dye is measured along with at least one additional parameter, such as light scattering, direct current, axial light loss, opacity, and radio frequency. These parameters are used to qualitatively or quantitatively identify the platelet population in the sample. |
