titleOfInvention Hemostatic valve
abstract The hemostatic valve assembly (10) includes a housing (14) having a chamber (16) therein. The flexible valve member (26) is disposed within the chamber (16) and is supported by the housing (14). A source of pressurized fluid (28) flows into the chamber (16) through a port (18) in the housing (14). A catheter, dilator, pusher or another elongate insert that is delivered to the hemostasis valve assembly (10) is sealed by application of fluid pressure to the chamber (16). When fluid pressure is applied to the chamber (16), the side of the valve member (26) is pressed against the insert (24), thereby providing an effective seal.
