abstract |
Novel lower eukaryotic host cells producing human-like glycoproteins characterized by having terminal β-galactose residues and essentially lacking fucose and sialic acid residues provide. Also provided are methods for catalyzing the transfer of a galactose residue from UDP-galactose to a receptor substrate in a recombinant lower eukaryotic host cell that can be used as a therapeutic glycoprotein. An isolated nucleic acid molecule encoding β-galactosyltransferase activity and encoding UDP-galactose transport activity, UDP-galactose C4 epimerase activity or galactokinase activity or galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase A recombinant lower eukaryotic host cell producing a human-like glycoprotein comprising at least one isolated nucleic acid molecule.
