abstract | The present invention provides a method for producing a polybenzamide-b-polystyrene block copolymer which is not easily affected by steric hindrance and can obtain a target product by a short process and simple operation. A polybenzamide derivative (A) is obtained by subjecting compound (1) as an initiator and chain polycondensation of compound (2) in the presence of a base, followed by deprotection of the protecting group. The product is reacted with an acid halide to obtain a polybenzamide derivative (B), which is used as a macroinitiator to produce a polybenzamide-b-polystyrene block copolymer by atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene in the presence of a metal catalyst.
