Method and kit for detecting early-onset renal tubular cell injury |
abstract |
A method and kit for detecting early-onset renal tubular cell damage using NGAL as an early urine biomarker. NGAL is a small secreted polypeptide and is easily detected in urine after renal tubular cell injury because it is protease resistant. The expression of NGAL protein is found in a punctate cytoplasmic distribution, much like secreted proteins, mainly in proximal tubule cells. The appearance of NGAL in the urine is related to the dosage and duration of renal ischemia and nephrotoxicity and is a diagnosis of renal tubular cell damage and renal failure. NGAL detection is also useful as a marker for monitoring nephrotoxic side effects of drugs or other therapeutic agents. [Selection figure] None |
