abstract The present invention addresses the limitations of current heart transplantation therapies that exist in the treatment of heart disease. A muscle cell and a method using the muscle cell are provided. In one example, the present invention provides implantable skeletal muscle cell compositions and uses thereof. In one embodiment, myocytes can be transplanted into the subject by administering myogenic cells to a patient having an abnormality characterized by cardiac dysfunction, such as congestive heart failure. The muscle cells may be autologous, allogeneic or xenogeneic to the subject. The present invention further comprises modifying, masking, or removing antigens on the surface of cells in the composition such that lysis of the cells is prevented when the composition is administered to a subject. suggest.
