The present invention provides a lactic acid bacterium that exhibits hydrolysis activity of conjugated bile acids and has an effect of suppressing cholesterol in serum. Lactobacillus johnsonii no. 1088 (contract No. NITEP-278) is excellent in hydrolyzing activity to conjugated bile acids, bile acid resistance, and cholesterol adsorption action, and suppresses cholesterol in serum by administration to a living body.
