The present invention provides a method for producing a bioactive low molecular weight compound that cannot be obtained by hydrolysis reaction in a composition containing a natural high molecular compound. A composition containing a natural polymer compound can be heat-treated in the presence of a metal salt to produce a physiologically active low-molecular compound that cannot be obtained by a hydrolysis reaction.
