PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phosphor having good temperature characteristics. A method of producing a phosphor having a light emission peak at a wavelength of 490 to 580 nm when excited with light having a wavelength of 250 to 500 nm and having a composition represented by the following general formula (2). (M 1-x R x ) a2 AlSi b2 O c2 N d2 (2) (Here, M is at least one metal element excluding Si and Al, R is a luminescent center metal element, 0 <x ≦ 1, 0.93 <a2 <1.3, 4.0 <b2 <5.8, 0.6 <c2 <1,6 < d2 ≦ 11) M source selected from M carbonates, nitrides, oxides and carbides, Al source selected from Al nitrides, oxides and carbides, and Si nitrides, oxides and carbides Si raw material and R raw material selected from oxides, nitrides and carbonates of R are weighed so as to satisfy the above relationship and mixed to obtain a mixed powder, and the obtained mixed powder is put into a crucible.
