[PROBLEMS] To produce olefins having 3 or more carbon atoms, particularly propylene, with a high selectivity under relatively mild reaction conditions. An advantageous manufacturing method is provided. In a method for producing an olefin having 3 or more carbon atoms from ethanol in the presence of a catalyst, a catalyst containing a rare earth metal and a zeolite is used as the catalyst.
