abstract The present invention suppresses black spots and fog, which are image defects caused by the use of an electrophotographic photosensitive member. In a method for producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member having an intermediate layer and a photosensitive layer, the intermediate layer includes a step (i) of treating a metal oxide with a calixarene compound, and a metal oxidation treated in the step (i).
