abstract |
A headliner assembly having contoured portions of varying foam thickness and density. A headliner assembly for use in an automobile cabin, embedded in a layer of urethane foam 68 forming a contoured substrate having first and second opposite sides. Glass fiber mat 62, release film 60 attached to the first side surface, adhesive film 66 attached to the opposite second side surface, and adhesive to the release film to provide elasticity to the headliner assembly. A scrim layer 72 for imparting safety and noise absorption, and a fabric layer 70 adhered to the adhesive film and providing a decorative cover to the headliner assembly. The headliner assembly includes an energy absorbing portion integral with the headliner assembly.
