titleOfInvention Ocular implants containing therapeutic agents
abstract A surgical method and associated treatment apparatus for treating glaucoma. The trabecular meshwork bypass plastic surgery forms a bypass in the diseased trabecular meshwork 21 using a seton implant 31. The seton implant 31 is used to prevent a healing process known as occlusion, in which the opening created by surgery within the trabecular meshwork tends to close. Surgical methods and novel implants are directed to the trabecular meshwork 21, which is the main site of resistance to outflow in glaucoma. In addition to creating a bypass to the diseased trabecular meshwork 21 at the level of the trabecular meshwork 21, existing outflow pathways are also used or repaired. The seton implant 31 is positioned at the entrance end of the seton implant 31 to the anterior chamber 20 of the eyeball and the exit end around the outer surface 43 of the trabecular meshwork 21 in the fluid collector channel or to the level of the aqueous humor The trabecular meshwork 21 is arranged as shown.
