| abstract | A surgically implanted gastric band surrounding the stomach having a removable fixation accessory. A removable gastric band having an end 10a and a head 10b for receiving the end 10a is shown. The gastric band also includes detachable fixing means for detachably fixing the head portion 10b and the end portion 10a together. End 10a may include teeth 14 and head 10b may include a notch that engages teeth 14. When the end portion 10a is inserted into the head portion 10b, the teeth 14 mesh with the notches, and the end portion 10a is detachably fixed in the head portion 10b. The gastric band that can be removably secured also includes a removal tab 24. When a force is applied to the removal tab 24 in a direction perpendicular to the central axis of the gastric band, the teeth 14 are disengaged from the notch so that the gastric band can be removed.
