abstract Since a technique for efficiently transporting and storing hydrogen is required, a hydrogen storage material having an excellent hydrogen storage capacity as compared with the prior art is provided. A hydrogen storage agent comprising: a porous carbon material having an oxygen-containing functional group on its surface; and Li bonded to the surface of the porous carbon material. The porous carbon material is activated coke, and the oxygen-containing functional group is at least one selected from the group consisting of a phenolic hydroxyl group, a quinone group, a carboxyl group, and a lactone carboxyl group.
