A light-emitting device using a phosphor with favorable temperature characteristics is provided. A light-emitting device includes a light-emitting element that emits light having a wavelength of 250 nm to 500 nm, and a phosphor layer disposed on the light-emitting element. The phosphor layer contains a phosphor having a composition represented by the following general formula (1), which exhibits an emission peak between wavelengths 580 nm and 700 nm when excited with light having a wavelength of 250 nm to 500 nm. (M 1-x R x ) a1 AlSi b1 O c1 N d1 (1) (In the above general formula, M is at least one metal element excluding Si and Al, and R is an emission central element. X, a1, b1, c1, and d1 satisfy the following relationship: 0 <x ≦ 1, 0.6 <a1 <0.95, 2 <b1 <3.9, 0.25 <c1 <0.45,4 <D1 <5.7) [Selection] Figure 2 |
