abstract | A cleaning member for cleaning an intermediate transfer member and a new cleaning member for cleaning the intermediate transfer member are provided in an ink jet type image forming apparatus that forms an image by applying a recording liquid such as ink to the intermediate transfer member by a head. A cleaning device provided with a cleaning means for cleaning, and an image forming apparatus having such a cleaning device. A voltage is applied between the intermediate transfer body 37 and a cleaning member 41 for contacting the intermediate transfer body 37 to which the recording liquid is applied by the head and cleaning the recording liquid on the intermediate transfer body 37. A cleaning device 40 having a cleaning electrode 42 for cleaning at least a recording liquid cleaned from the intermediate transfer member 37 by a cleaning member 41 by electrolysis, and an image forming apparatus having the same.
