abstract |
A FAIM filter and a detection system for generating a spectrum of a sample by controlling a flow of selected ions at higher speed and with higher accuracy than a conventional FAIM apparatus. A pair of spaced apart substrates for a detection system, the microasymmetric field ion mobility filter (24), defining a flow path between the substrates between a sample inlet (16) and an outlet. An ion filter having a pair of filter electrodes (20, 22) disposed in the flow path and spaced from each other, each electrode being coupled to each substrate, and a bias voltage at both ends of the ion filter electrode, and An electronic controller (30) for applying an asymmetric periodic voltage to control the ion flow path through the filter.
