abstract |
An apparatus and method for reducing the development of pressure ulcers in a patient who lies on each supporting surface such as a mattress in a hospital bed for a long period of time. Each data indicative of a characteristic of a user's tissue in contact with at least one inflatable bag, a cover including a top portion of the at least one inflatable bag, and at least one inflatable bag and cover. A plurality of sensors 56 for generating signals, and a processor operably connected to the plurality of sensors 56 and configured to execute operational logic for determining a surface performance index in response to each data signal; A control system 16 connected to one inflatable bag and including a fluid supply 14 in which the processor controls operation in response to the surface performance index.
