A base material for artificial leather and a method for easily producing such an artificial leather base material are provided. A high-density nonwoven fabric structure is impregnated with a solution or an aqueous dispersion of a polymer elastic body from both sides, and roll / nip treatment is performed at a deformation ratio in the thickness direction of the nonwoven fabric structure exceeding 45% and 70% or less.
