The present invention provides a rubber composition for a tire having an improved balance between rubber strength and rolling resistance, and a pneumatic tire using the same. The nitrogen adsorption specific surface area is 15 to 100 m with respect to 100 parts by mass of a rubber component including a modified butadiene rubber and at least one rubber selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, isoprene rubber, and butadiene rubber. 2 / g of carbon black is contained in an amount of 3 to 40 parts by mass, a compound represented by the following formula (I) is contained in an amount of 5 to 23 parts by mass, and the content of the modified butadiene rubber in 100% by mass of the rubber component is 5 to 80% by mass.
