Disclosed is an inhibitor that binds to C5 and C5a, but does not inhibit C5 activation, does not prevent C5b formation, or does not inhibit C5b activity. An example of such an inhibitor is a monoclonal antibody designated MAb137-26 that binds to a common epitope on human C5 and C5a. These inhibitor molecules can be used to treat diseases and conditions that involve excessive or uncontrolled production of C5a. These inhibitor molecules are also useful for diagnostic detection or quantification of the presence / absence of C5 or C5a. [Selection figure] None |
