abstract | The present invention relates to a method for producing an N-vinylcarbazole copolymer retardation film in which coloring and odor are remarkably suppressed, and N-vinylcarbazole copolymer in which coloring and odor are remarkably suppressed. An object is to provide a body retardation film. The method for producing an N-vinylcarbazole copolymer retardation film according to the present invention comprises synthesizing N-vinylcarbazole from carbazole having a purity of 99.0% by mass or more; 1% by mass or more and 15% by mass or less. A step of copolymerizing a monomer group comprising N-vinylcarbazole and 85% by mass or more and 99% by mass or less of a (meth) acrylic acid monomer; and a step of thermoforming the obtained copolymer into a film.
