PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cure a polymerizable liquid crystal composition provided as a material for a biaxial film in the air without substituting an atmosphere with an inert gas at the time of ultraviolet irradiation, An object of the present invention is to provide a material capable of realizing a biaxial retardation film excellent in the thermal stability of the obtained front retardation. The present invention relates to a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable liquid crystal compound, a chiral compound, a light absorber and a photopolymerization initiator, and a monofunctional polymerization having two six-membered rings as the polymerizable liquid crystal compound. A polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a benzyl dimethyl ketal compound as a polymerizable liquid crystal compound and a photopolymerization initiator, having a light absorption band of 280 to 400 nm in wavelength and exhibiting a chiral nematic phase.
