A high-molecular-weight-containing viscous liquid such as blood, body fluid containing blood, and excrement such as watery stool diffuses between water-absorbent resin particles and penetrates into the water-absorbent resin particles. Provided is a water-absorbent resin having sufficient absorption capacity for a high molecular weight-containing viscous liquid. The specific surface area measured by the BET multipoint method using krypton gas as an adsorbed gas is 0.05 m 2 / g or more, and the water retention capacity for holding 0.9 wt% physiological saline is 5 to 30 g. / G, a water-absorbent resin suitable for absorption of a high molecular weight-containing viscous liquid.
