[PROBLEMS] To improve surface activity such as foaming and emulsifying dispersibility, and to reduce the environmental burden because it requires only a lower concentration than conventional surfactants, making it less irritating and biodegradable. Provided is a nonionic surfactant useful for various uses such as a cleaning agent, an emulsifier, a dispersant, a solubilizer, a greasing agent, an antistatic agent, a dustproof agent, and a wetting / penetrating agent. The present invention is a nonionic surfactant obtained by addition-polymerizing a total of 2 to 150 moles of ethylene oxide to a carboxyl group of a dihydroxy fatty acid having 10 to 26 carbon atoms and at least one hydroxyl group.
