abstract Provided is an image processing means capable of reliably detecting a region of a culture medium from a culture container even when the culture medium changes color with changes in time and environment. An observation image obtained by capturing an image of a culture medium in a culture container located in an observation field with an imaging device is obtained for a culture container having a culture medium used for culturing the culture inside, and is copied to the observation image. Color space information in the sampling area is set in advance by setting the sampling area specified by the observer as one area of the culture medium and the background part from the area of the culture medium in the culture vessel and the background part excluding the culture medium. Based on the above, by estimating the color distribution of the medium region in the observation image by statistical processing, the region of the medium and the background portion are discriminated to identify the medium region.
