The present invention provides a nanoporous metal material which is made of an inexpensive and economically superior material, is a nanoporous structure, and is decorated with a thin layer of a noble metal for optical and catalytic applications. A nanoporous metal surface-modified with a noble metal (nanoporous metal) can be obtained in a simple manner by a template technique with in-situ sacrifice that can be controlled.・ Shell-type nanoporous metal composites include sensors including biochemical sensors, catalysts including electrolytic oxidation catalysts, nanoscale waveguides, enhancer materials in the electromagnetic field and light transmission field, gases and elements such as hydrogen gas, etc. It is useful as a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for molecules, a sensor material for surface-enhanced Raman scattering, and the like.
