Production of diesel fuel from renewable feedstock with reduced hydrogen consumption |
abstract |
A process has been developed to produce diesel oil boiling range fuels from renewable feedstocks such as vegetable and animal fats. The method includes treating a renewable feedstock by hydrogenation and deoxygenation to provide a hydrocarbon fraction useful as a diesel oil boiling range fuel. Water is added to the deoxygenation reaction to react carbon monoxide with water to form hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The hydrogen is then consumed by the reaction. If desired, the hydrocarbon fraction can be isomerized to improve cold flow properties. [Selection] Figure 2 |
