abstract | A sol-gel phase reversible hydrogel template is used to produce isolated microstructures of a predetermined size and shape. An aqueous solution of hydrogel-forming material is coated on a microfabricated silicon wafer master template having a predetermined microstructure such as a pillar. The hydrogel template is generally produced at a low temperature, and the hydrogel template produced from the silicon master template is peeled off. Wells of a predetermined size and shape on the hydrogel template are filled with a water-insoluble polymer solution or paste and the solvent is removed to form a solid structure. The manufactured microstructure easily dissolves the hydrogel template with water and releases it from the hydrogel template. The microstructure is obtained by centrifugation. The microstructure produced in this way has a predetermined size and shape that exactly corresponds to the microwell of the hydrogel template. The manufacturing method of the microstructure based on the hydrogel template is simple, and a large amount of the microstructure can be easily produced. |
