A composition comprising polymer matrix microspheres with two different pharmaceutically active compounds having complementary (usually synergistic) activities to kill cells. The composition has utility particularly in the treatment of tumors. Useful combinations are doxorubicin and rapamycin, irinotecan and ibuprofen, ibuprofen and doxorubicin, and irinotecan and doxorubicin. The polymer matrix is preferably cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol. Drugs may be included in the same microsphere, or microspheres each having a separate drug may be mixed together.
