abstract | A novel method for synthesizing fenofibrate is provided. The present invention relates to a novel method for synthesizing fenofibrate. The process is characterized by reacting the metal salt of fenofibric acid with isopropyl halide in a solvent system consisting essentially of a mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide and C 2 -C 4 alkyl acetate. The method can be used on an industrial scale, and furthermore, fenofibrate having a quality compatible with the pharmacopoeia can be obtained by the method without the need for purification by recrystallization.
