abstract Methods and compositions are provided for detecting diseases caused by infectious pathogens and pathogens. In particular, methods and compositions comprising novel combinations of nucleic acid amplification techniques and drug sensitivity techniques are provided. In certain embodiments, the present invention allows for the detection of infectious pathogens and pathogens and provides information regarding the pathogen or pathogen viability status. In one embodiment, the present invention is used to detect mycobacterial infections, including but not limited to tuberculosis.
