abstract | Disclosed are methods for evaluating the composition of a cell culture (eg, to distinguish chondrocytes from fibroblasts) and methods for evaluating the phenotype of each cell (as chondrocytes). The method can be used, for example, to evaluate the culture of chondrocytes used to treat cartilage defects. In some embodiments, the present invention relates to the identification of cell culture compositions or the identification of cells based on the expression level of fibroblast markers. In other embodiments, the invention relates to comparing the expression levels of at least one chondrocyte marker and at least one fibroblast marker in a cell culture sample or each cell. In an example, the chondrocyte marker is hyaluronic acid and proteoglycan linked protein 1 (HAPLN1), and the fibroblast marker is microfibril binding protein 5 (MFAP5). |
