titleOfInvention | Medical Research Institute Report Message Gateway |
abstract | The gateway allows medical (including genes and genomes) laboratories and healthcare providers (collectively “clients”) to communicate electronic messages with each other without developing and maintaining an interface for each partner. . The gateway translates messages sent between the parties. The gateway receives a message containing the diagnostic code from each sender in a format preferred by the sender. For each received message, the gateway verifies the intended receiving client. Each client may specify one or more recipients (eg, applications) to receive messages sent to the client, as well as a separate format and optionally a set of codes for each recipient. For each recipient, the gateway generates a translated message according to the recipient's preferred format and / or code. The gateway sends the translated message to each designated recipient. The gateway may include an validation component that checks for incoming messages and may ensure that the message contains the requested information and that the information value is valid or acceptable. The gateway may include an exception handler that informs the sending client whether the message from the client cannot be translated or sent correctly. The gateway may maintain a repository and stores in the repository a message that the gateway sent to the client or a copy of the message that it would have sent. The gateway provides an interface, for example a secure web interface, to this repository. The client may access messages or message lists, particularly messages that would otherwise not be received, via this interface. The gateway may store a copy of some data flowing through the gateway in the biological information database, which may be analyzed automatically by the gateway, or for research or patient care.
